What is Riddler Road Rally?
Riddler Road Rally is a live, citywide scavenger hunt on wheels. Teams of 1–5 players use our mobile app to solve puzzles, navigate GPS-tracked checkpoints, and race across the city — competing for a growing cash jackpot funded by team registrations. Every team follows a unique route, so the experience is different each time. Events are held in cities across the United States.
I’ve always believed adventure and laughter bring people closer —
something we need now more than ever in a world that often leaves us
feeling disconnected. My story started when I was nine years old. My
family competed as the Good Earth Family in the Orem City Road Rally. We
all gathered at Scera Park, and each team got a small piece of paper
with a clue on it. From that clue, we had to figure out the next
location to drive to. We’d drive there, hoping we were in the right
place, and look around for another paper clue.
I’m sure my nine-year-old
self didn’t help much with the puzzles. But I still remember the sense
of adventure and connection I felt — not only with my family as we
worked together to solve clues and drive all over town, stopping at
local spots — but also with other teams and community sponsors too.
There aren’t many ways you can connect on so many levels like this in a
fun, competitive environment. Our family won, and we still have the
little trophy.
Many years later, I was still thinking about that event
and I thought about how cool it would be to modernize it by delivering
the puzzles and clues through an app and capturing the locations with
GPS. At the time, however, I was busy running Good Earth and raising my
family, so it stayed a dream. Somewhere along the way, Pokémon Go came
out. Watching that phenomenon and realizing the technology was here kept
the dream alive.
After selling Good Earth in 2020, I decided it was
finally time to build what I’d been dreaming about since I was nine: a
citywide scavenger hunt on wheels, with clues in an app, real locations,
puzzles, and a cash jackpot — but more than anything else, a way to
recreate that sense of adventure and connection I felt and share it with
others.
In 2024, before we officially launched, I held a test rally in
Lehi. My son and his wife joined in — they’d been married five years and
had a little one at home. After the event, they came over to my house
still hyped up, laughing about how fun it was to team up as a couple and
compete against others. They both talked about how nice it was to
reconnect with each other. That’s when I knew my goal of bringing
adventure and connection to others was really happening.
That’s what
Riddler Road Rally is all about: real-world adventure, friendly
competition, and connection you’ll remember long after the event is
over. I hope you love playing it as much as I do!
